With the new article Mara from Gütermann, non-elastic seams are thing of the past and now there is a way to enjoy comfortable and body fit clothing.

An equation that don’t realize

The question is, how you can generate an elastic seam? The assumption that a very elastic thread makes a stretchable lockstitch seam is not the solution for the problem. During the processing the elastic threads become stretched and later the seam returns in it’s original length. The result is pucker and this effect is excellent for smocking.

More thread in the seam generates a stretchable lockstitch seam

In order to make a stretchable lockstitch seam, a certain amount of thread must be stored in the seam. The amount of thread makes the essential difference:

• To reduce the amount of thread stored in the seam would cause the thread to take back and that’s the main reason for tension puckering.

• An ideal harmonization of thread stored in the seam generates a pucker-free, beautiful seam.

• When you work in a reserve during the sewing process a stretchable seam arises, that is not only beautiful to look at but also most comfortable.

The Micro Core Technology^® makes the difference

Elastic seams require a sewing thread which can be sewn with minimal thread tension and allow surface interlock ideal with the fabric. This combination prevents the thread from pulling out of the seam during the sewing processing.

This is successful with the sewing threads out of the Micro Core Technology^® (MCT) by Gütermann. MCT is the first microfilament polyester-based core spun technology and not comparable to any other existing manufacturing technique.

With high level uniformity and excellent running properties, the MCT-threads can be handled with minimal thread tension. In addition, the surface – with no projecting fibres like in conventional core spun threads – is made up of micro loops and insure, that the thread optimal interlocks with the fabric.

You can compare this with the effect of a hook and loop fastener. The hook-and-loop fixation between the thread and the fabric and the essential lower thread tension during the processing guarantee additional thread stored in the seam and ensure an elastic comfortable seam.
